Race story
The World Cup arrives at the birthplace of alpine skiing — St. Anton am Arlberg and the legendary Karl Schranz course.
Since the founding of the Ski-Club Arlberg in 1901 and the first Arlberg Kandahar race in 1928, St. Anton has shaped the evolution of alpine skiing. This is where Hannes Schneider developed the revolutionary Arlberg technique, where legends are born, and where the sport’s most iconic traditions continue. The Karl Schranz downhill — named after the two-time World Cup overall champion and local hero — is one of the most demanding speed courses in the world.
From the start at over 2,000 meters, racers face almost 700 vertical meters and over 2 kilometers of relentless terrain leading to the finish stadium in the heart of St. Anton. The notorious Eisfall section hits a maximum gradient of 78% — among the steepest in World Cup racing. Champions like Lindsey Vonn, Sofia Goggia, and Federica Brignone have conquered this mountain. The course hosted the 2001 World Championships and continues to test the world’s best.
This weekend, Ski Challenge brings St. Anton to life with two World Cup Race Events:
- One-Try Race – one run, full commitment, no second chances.
- Unlimited Event – hunt the perfect line and push for your fastest time.
St. Anton rewards technical precision and calculated aggression. The steep pitches punish hesitation while the gliding sections demand perfect aerodynamics. Whether you’re battling for the overall World Cup title, chasing a podium, or simply want to experience the cradle of alpine skiing — St. Anton awaits.
Training begins midweek, with race action on Saturday and Sunday.
St. Anton is calling.
Are you ready to race where legends are made?
