Race story

The World Cup arrives at one of the most brutal courses in alpine skiing — Zauchensee and the legendary Kälberloch.Since 1990, the Kälberloch has been testing the world’s best on the Gamskogel mountain in the Austrian Alps. The start is so steep — a 70% gradient — that it’s impossible to walk uphill. Racers can only reach the start gate via a steep cog railway. From the first gate, the course demands total commitment through a complex middle section marked by major directional changes before dropping onto a fast pitch that builds speed rapidly to the finish.Champions like Vreni Schneider, Petra Kronberger, Lindsey Vonn, and Sofia Goggia have conquered this course. Just this weekend, 41-year-old Vonn claimed her 84th career World Cup victory here — proof that Zauchensee rewards precision and experience over raw aggression. This weekend we go all-in with two World Cup Race Events:

  • One-Try Race – every decision counts, every mistake matters.
  • Unlimited Event – chase your perfect line and push until you hit your best time.

The Kälberloch punishes poor line choice immediately. If you’re not committed from gate one, the mountain will humble you.Whether you’re hunting the overall World Cup title, chasing a podium, or simply want to experience one of the most demanding downhills in racing history — Zauchensee is calling.Training begins on Wednesday and lasts until Friday. The race takes place on Saturday and Sunday.

RESULTS

Chaos on the Kälberloch — and a new World Cup leader!

The most dominant training performance of the season meant nothing on race day. While Wammerl topped all three training conditions, it was JohnJulian who delivered when it mattered — taking his first One Try win of the season despite not appearing in any training top 10. Meanwhile, Hermaaaaan’s TimeAttack dominance continues, but a 9th place in One Try cost him the overall lead.
