How to get faster in Ski Challenge
A beginner-friendly guide that explains what really makes you fast
Getting faster in Ski Challenge is not about one single stat or item. Real speed comes from the right driving technique, correct equipment choices, and understanding the underlying systems of the game.
PART 1: GEAR UP FOR SPEED
Your equipment directly impacts how fast you can go. Here’s what you need to know:
Understanding Your Ski Attributes
Skis come in different tiers (T1–T5).
- Higher tier = better overall attributes.
- However: A lower-tier ski with the correct discipline and radius is faster than a higher-tier ski with the wrong one.
Every piece of gear has attributes that affect your performance:
- Speed – Your maximum potential speed. Higher Speed means a higher top speed on the mountain. This is the most impactful attribute for race times.
- Carve – How well you maintain speed through turns. Good Carve means less time lost when cutting through gates.
- Grip – Your ski’s traction on the snow. Better Grip prevents sliding and keeps you on your racing line.
- Aerodynamics – Reduces air resistance. Better Aero means you slice through the air instead of fighting it. Your suit and helmet are the key gear pieces for this.
- Fame – Increases your Coins rewards. Not directly about speed, but helps you upgrade faster!
- Turn Radius – Determines how tightly your ski can carve. This is critical: the radius must match the track type or you’ll fight against your equipment instead of working with it. More on this below.

How to Upgrade Your Gear
The upgrade system has three connected layers. Understanding how they work together is key to getting faster.
1. Collect Parts to Unlock Items
Every gear item starts locked. To unlock and use it, you need to collect Parts specific to that item.
Where do Parts come from?
- Loot boxes – You earn these through Career and Ski Pass progression, Events participation – depending on final placement; Final reward for league seasonal rank placement.
- Shop – Part bundles are available for purchase
- Direct rewards – Some races in career and events give Parts directly
- Ski Pass – Complete the Ski Pass to unlock gear of the season
2. Increase Your Star Level
Once you’ve collected enough Parts, you can increase your item’s Star Level (up to 3 stars). Each star level unlocks higher attribute potential:
- ★ (1 star) – Item unlocked, basic attribute upgrades available
- ★★ (2 stars) – Medium attribute upgrades unlocked
- ★★★ (3 stars) – Maximum attribute potential unlocked
Think of star levels as raising the ceiling. You can’t max out an attribute on a 1-star item – you need to collect more Parts and reach higher star levels first.
3. Upgrade Attributes with Coins
Coins are used to upgrade equipment attributes. Once your star level allows it, spend Coins to boost individual attributes. This is where your gear actually gets faster.
Focus on Speed first – it has the biggest direct impact on your race times. After that, prioritize Carve to maintain momentum through turns.
Where do Coins come from?
- Career races grant coins for every completed race (base reward)
- Career rewards – Completing race goals during progressing through the Career gives bonus Coins
- Events and Leagues – Competitive modes offer Coin rewards. There are Daily events which let you easily grind for some Coins.
- Quests & Ski Pass – Complete Quests to progress in the Ski Pass and earn Coins. Upgrade to the Premium Ski Pass to earn even more.
- Fame bonus – Higher Fame on your gear multiplies your Coin earnings from every race
The upgrade loop: Race → Earn Coins and Loot Boxes → Collect Parts → Increase Star Level → Upgrade Attributes → Race faster → Repeat.
Use Modifiers for Extra Edge
Modifiers give you temporary boosts for specific track conditions:
- Wax (Uniwax / Prowax) for more speed
- Base Grip / Pro Grip for better grip
- Base Laminates / Pro Laminates for better carve
Correct wax and grip selection can noticeably affect speed and control, especially in changing snow conditions.
Check the track conditions before each race and equip the right modifiers in your Service Room!
Progress Through Career Mode
Career mode is your main path to better gear. Each Chapter unlocks access to higher-tier equipment:
- Chapter 1 → Tier 1 gear
- Chapter 2 → Tier 2 gear
- And so on…
Complete races, collect Parts, and upgrade steadily. Don’t rush – solid T2 gear that’s fully upgraded often beats un-upgraded T3 gear.
PART 2: BECOME A BETTER SKIER
Even the best equipment won’t help if you’re not racing smart. Here’s how to improve your skills:
Master Your Stance
Your skier’s stance (controlled by the right slider) is the key to speed.
- Deep stance (tuck position) reduces air drag dramatically – you’ll accelerate faster and reach higher top speeds on straight sections.
- Upright stance gives you better control for tight turns but creates more air resistance.
The trick: Stay tucked as long as possible, only coming up briefly when you need to make sharp turns. Every second in the tuck counts!
Find the Racing Line
The fastest path down the mountain isn’t always the most obvious one. Look for the smoothest, most direct route through gates. Cut close to gates to minimize distance traveled, but don’t risk missing them!
Remember: your ski radius determines which lines are even possible. A high-radius downhill ski simply cannot carve the tight arcs that a slalom course demands – so matching your equipment to the track is the first step to taking optimal lines.
Learn From Your Races
After each race, pay attention to where you lost time:
- Did you brake too early before turns?
- Were you spending too much time upright?
- Did you take wide lines around gates?
- Was your ski radius wrong for the track type?
Each race is a learning opportunity.
Race Against Better Opponents
In Duel races and League mode, you race against ghost recordings of other players. This is incredibly valuable! Watch how faster players take their lines, when they tuck, and how they approach each section.
Don’t be discouraged if you lose – you’re learning their techniques every time.
Watch and Learn
Some players share their runs online. Watching skilled racers tackle the same tracks you’re struggling with can reveal techniques you hadn’t considered.

Join the Community
Connect with fellow racers on the official Ski Challenge Discord community! You can:
- Ask questions and get tips from experienced players
- Discuss race strategies for specific tracks
- Find out about upcoming Events
- Meet other ski racing enthusiasts
Practice, Practice, Practice
There’s no substitute for time on the slopes. The physics system rewards precise control – the more you race, the more intuitive steering and stance management become.
Participate in Events
Events let you test high-tier preset gear you don’t own yet. This is great for:
- Experiencing how better equipment feels
- Learning advanced tracks
- Earning special rewards
Quick Tips for Beginners
- Match your ski radius to the track – This is non-negotiable. Low radius for Giant Slalom (GS), high radius for Downhill (DH).
- Always equip your best skis – Speed attribute matters most after selecting the right ski with the right radius
- Upgrade before moving on – Solid upgrades beat rushing to new tiers
- Check track conditions – Use the right modifiers for the situation
- Stay in the tuck – Air resistance is your enemy, find gear with high Aerodynamic values, this will increase your speed.
- Complete your Quests – Easy way to earn Parts and Coins through the Ski Pass
- Don’t skip Events and Leagues – Great for rewards and testing new gear
Ready to Hit the Slopes?
