The World Cup descends on Bavaria’s legendary racing ground – Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the iconic Kandahar course.
Built for the 1936 Winter Olympics – where alpine skiing made its Olympic debut – the Kandahar has defined speed racing for nearly a century. Named after Frederick Roberts, the Earl of Kandahar, and home to the prestigious Arlberg-Kandahar races since 1954, this course has witnessed every era of the sport’s evolution. Redesigned in 2008 for the 2011 World Championships, the modern Kandahar is built to break the bravest.
From the start at 1,690 meters on Kreuzjoch, racers plunge through 920 vertical meters and over 3.3 kilometers of raw Bavarian terrain. The notorious Freier Fall section hits a maximum gradient of 92% – the steepest on the entire World Cup circuit. Champions like Hermann Maier, Lindsey Vonn, Dominik Paris, and Marco Odermatt have conquered this mountain. The course hosted the 1936 Olympics and two World Championships, and continues to separate the elite from the rest.
This weekend, Ski Challenge brings Garmisch to life with two World Cup Race Events:
One-Try Race – one run, full commitment, no second chances.
Unlimited Event – hunt the perfect line and push for your fastest time.
Garmisch rewards raw power and fearless commitment. The steep upper pitches punish hesitation, the Kramersprung demands perfect timing, and the Freier Fall tests your nerve like no other section on the circuit. Whether you’re chasing the overall World Cup title, hunting a podium, or simply want to take on the steepest slope in world racing – Garmisch awaits.
Training begins midweek, with race action on Saturday and Sunday.

Pepikum20 wins on German soil — but Hermaaaaan secures the World Cup title!
The Kandahar delivered drama until the very end. Pepikum20 took the One Try race with a stunning 128 milliseconds victory over Hermaaaaan, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Austrian’s march to glory. With Hermaaaaan claiming TimeAttack and extending his lead to an insurmountable 144 points with just one race left, the World Cup 26 title is mathematically secured.
